Pulkovo Shares Beauty of the Commander Islands

Saint-Petersburg airport hosts a photo-show called “The Commander Islands Nature Reserve. Pleased to meet you!”. This show is about the biggest marine nature reserve in Russia and its inhabitants.

The exposition includes 46 photos of pristine treasures of Bering, Medny, Toporkov and Ary Kamen Islands. You will see unique views on tundra, seascapes and fauna of the reserve. 

Killer whales, sperm whales, humpbacks, harems of the northern fur seal, packs of Pacific salmon, exotic seabirds and other faces of wild nature are shown in their natural habitat.

The pictures were taken by employees of the Commander Islands Reserve. The exhibition is situated in domestic flights part of the airport on the 3rd floor and will continue till July 2019.

The Commander Islands are a relatively small archipelago on the border of Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean, 180km to the East of Kamchatka peninsula. All four of the islands – Bering, Medny, Ary Kamen and Toporkov – and more than 3 million hectares of marine water area are included in the territory of the Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve.
