Month of Silence on the Commander Islands

To minimize the disturbance of animals during their reproductive period, the CINBR bans visiting the buffer zone on the territory and water area of the nature reserve from April 12 to May 24, and the issuance of passes for the locals and visitors was suspended.

Vsevolod Yakovlev, Deputy Director for Protection, commented on the restrictions:

“During this period, the presence of employees of the reserve in the core and buffer zones was minimized, including the suspension of work on the maintenance of the security regime and educational and tourist infrastructure.

An exception will be the work of rangers to promote the interim limitations and the established regime of special protection, the other exception is scientific work of the highest priority within the environmental monitoring program."
