On August 5, a working meeting of the acting governor of Kamchatka Krai Vladimir Solodov and the members of the Association of Specially Protected Natural Areas of Kamchatka took place.
The parties discussed the prospects for the development of ecological tourism in the region. Anastasia Kuznetsova, Director of the Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve, presented the tourist potential of the Commander Islands, talking about the already created infrastructure and further plans for the development of the reserve.
Also, the issue of environmental education activities in Kamchatka was raised. The participants considered the possibility of launching an educational program for schoolchildren and regional support for volunteer projects in specially protected natural areas.
“The feeling from the meeting is very positive. My colleagues and I saw the understanding and desire of the regional leadership to find a balance between the interests of nature conservation and the socio-economic aspects of the region's development. Ecological culture that changes the values of people should become the starting point. Both ecological tourism and volunteering in specially protected natural areas are an effective tool for promoting the idea of nature protection "- said Anastasia Kuznetsova.
