The Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve to Open Photo-Show in the Open Air

The Wonderful World of the Commander Islands photo-show will start in Apollo Park, Kirov on May 16, 10:00 a.m. and will last till the end of July. The guests will have a chance to have a closer look at fauna of the Commander Islands – a unique spot on the map of Russia. The exposition contains photos made by the Commander Islands Reserve Scientific Department specialists.

Come and see humpback whales and sperm whales, Minke whales and orcas, seals and sea lions, sea otters and harbor seals, seabirds and fascinating landscapes.

The Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve is one of the most distant and difficult to reach reserves in Russia. It is truly a one and only place, which combines bird colonies, anseriformes wintering grounds, whales feeding grounds, northern seals and sea lions breeding grounds and habitats of sea otters. Despite the enormous distance between these two points, Kirov and the Commander Islands are closer than you may think. Sergey Marakov, famous scientist and game manager, lived and worked on the islands. Our reserve bears his name. Later he continued his work in Kirov Agricultural Institute and in the All-Russian Research Institute for Hunting Husbandry and Livestock Breeding.

It is not the first exhibition of the Commander Islands Reserve in Kirov, organized together with our partners – Kirov Municipal Systems. 2017 is a special year for us, as we continue to celebrate the centenary of the nature reserves system of Russia.
