Kids’ Books Week with the Commander Islands Reserve

On March 25, 2019 Vitaly Kruchina Kamchatka Children Library (Vladivostokskaya street, 16) will host presentation of books about animals of the Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve.

Researchers of the reserve have adapted their knowledge and created two books for children. Alexander Shienok produced a book called Tiny Islanders, which reveals the story of life and adventures of Bering Island arctic foxes. This subspecies can be found only on the largest island of the Commander Islands and nowhere else.

Alexander Shienok and Nadezhda Alexandrova

Evgeny Mamaev’s book Toshka’s Adventures tells about a baby sea lion, who is so loved by the readers, that pupils of our Ecological Guest-Room even made a cartoon about him. The two books were illustrated by Nadezhda Alexandrova.

Where to find them, what do they eat, how they live and what happens, if the two meet each other? To discover the answers and much more, come to the lecture by Iva Kazantseva, specialist of the Commander Islands Reserve. All the guests are welcome to take part in a trivia game with prizes and in dramatic reading of some of the passages.

The presentation is organized in the framework of Kids’ Books Week on Kamchatka.

Start at 16:00. Open to the public.
