Educational Projects of the CINBR to Receive Regional Support

The head of the Kamchatsky Krai Vladimir Solodov, at a meeting with the staff of the Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve, set the task of creating conditions for educational tourism, children's educational programs and the organization of legitimate nature management for local residents.

On August 25, the Head of the Kamchatsky Krai Vladimir Solodov arrived in the village of Nikolskoye on Bering Island for a working visit. The delegation was also attended by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Kamchatsky Krai Aleksey Kumarkov, the Minister of Transport and Road Construction of the Kamchatsky Krai Vladimir Kayumov.

The head of the region began his first visit to the Commander Islands with acquaintance with the village and communication with local residents. The delegation visited the main institutions of the village, including the visitor center of the CINBR reserve and the ecological trail To the Bird Islands. Toporkov Island.

The team of the CINBR proudly presented to the guests the results of territory development, introduced the main directions of the work, told about our achievements and plans for the future.

The head of the region showed particular interest in the children's environmental and educational work of the reserve - excursions and scientific projects, auto expeditions around the cherished Kamchatka peninsula, educational programs for schoolchildren. Vladimir Solodov stressed that the future of Kamchatka lies in environmental education of schoolchildren and the regional government will help the reserve to develop this area.

He highly appreciated the level of both the visitor center itself and the infrastructure on the territory of the reserve, and noted that it would be right to organize a reception for Kamchatka children on the Commander Islands. “We would very much like to host children's groups from Kamchatka. Last year, in Buyan Bay, we had conditions for conducting expeditions for local children, we hope that we, together with the administration of the Aleutian municipal district, will resolve the issue of placing children's groups from Kamchatka, ”said the director of the reserve. Anastasia Kuznetsova also stressed that the staff of the reserve are already preparing a new environmental education program for schoolchildren in Kamchatka.

The meeting also discussed the prospects for cooperation between the reserve and the regional authorities. Such projects could become Green Commander Islands, a system for efficient waste management on protected islands, as well as the development of the northern part of Bering Island. “The projects that you are showing are an example of how we can develop mutually beneficially - a nature reserve and a village. And this, in my opinion, an artificially formed choice - either economic activity in the village, or a reserve - we should overcome it and harmoniously develop, on the one hand, comfortable conditions for villagers, including the staff of the reserve, on the other, to preserve nature ... And so that local residents take part in this, ”said Vladimir Solodov.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the region thanked the staff of the reserve for their work. “Being here, you understand with what love and soul the visitor center of the reserve has been made, you can see that you are putting all your soul and energy,” he noted.
