The Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve Celebrates 25th Anniversary

On Monday April 23, The Commander Islands Nature and Biosphere Reserve celebrates its 25th birthday.

For 25 years, we protect unique natural communities of the Commander Islands. The team of the reserve would like to thank all the enthusiasts who participated in the creation of the reserve, who works with us today, make research, protects and spreads the word about this natural wonder – the nature of the islands.

We would need several days to write every achievement or event in the past 25 years, so we invite you to see the main stages of our development.

As you remember the largest marine nature reserve in Russia was created in 1993. The protected area includes Bering, Medny, Ary Kamen, Toporkov, several other small islands, and a 30-mile-wide protected water area in Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean.
